Cotswold Show Hits the Spot with 'Have a Go' Archery and Laser Shooting
Friday, 01 May 2009
The Cotswold Show aims to be right on target with the introduction of laser clay shooting and have-a-go archery to this year’s host of family-fun activities.
Under the watchful eye of experienced instructors from Birds Hill Days, youngsters and adults alike can put their precision and accuracy to the test and enjoy a taste of these exciting countryside pursuits.
Laser shooting uses real, but converted, 12-bore shotguns which fire a safe infra-red beam at full-size clays fired from an electric trap. And because there’s no recoil it’s totally child-friendly.
If that doesn’t capture your eye why not experience the thrill of have-a-go archery. It doesn’t matter what level you are there’s a target for everyone to reach.
Birds Hill Days will be at the show on Saturday and Sunday 4 and 5 July between 9am-6pm.
Fast and fun - Ferret racing comes to the Cotswold Show
Friday, 01 May 2009
If you are fanatical about ferrets or keen to learn more about our furry friends you won’t want to miss this year’s ferret racing, new to the Cotswold Show.
The Hants and Berks Ferret Club will be bringing along their ferrets so you can get up close and personal with these friendly creatures; learn more about ferret welfare, care and handling whilst dispelling commonly-held misconceptions. Not forgetting, of course, having some fun too!
Anyone who is familiar with the little animals will know that ferrets just love tunnels and the club will be holding ferret racing every two hours throughout the two-day event. For just 20p you can double your money by choosing from the black, white, yellow or green tube and cheering on your winning ferret.
Watch the ferrets navigate the various obstacles as experienced handlers let them loose on the chicane, the see-saw and the water jump! Racing ferrets must reach the end of the tube and return with all four feet on the ground outside of the tube before the triumphant winner is announced.
Every member who attends the ferret shows throughout the summer is a volunteer. All money raised goes towards keeping the club up and running and helping the ferrets at various rescue centres.
Horse Whisperer returns to Cotswold Show
Saturday, 18 April 2009
Gary Witheford will be returning to the Cotswold Show this year. 2008 was due to be Gery’s last performance and proved very poignant for everyone. However, Gary has agreed to return for 2009 although his performance will be a slightly different format.
Gary is keen for his son, Craig to take centre stage at this and future events as part of his plans for Craig to take over the business when Gary eventually retires. Witheford Equine will therefore be represented in the main by Craig, although Gary will be in attendance.
Gary and Craig use a system they call ‘natural horsemanship’ to train unruly horses, which is based on his observation of how horses behave in the wild.
Witheford Equine customers include top trainers from the racing world and Gary has even coached soldiers from the Household Cavalry in his natural horsemanship method. Exact times of Craig’s demonstrations will be printed in the Show’s programme which is available at the event
