Free Sport Sessions For Disabled Children

An initiative to keep disabled children active and involved in a range of sports will be launched by Cotswold District Council and its partners later this month.

Free multi-sport sessions will start at the Cotswold School in Bourton-on-the-Water on January 28th, where children aged seven and up can come along and take part in several different sports, including Boccia, slalom, wheelchair football and curling.

The afternoon sessions will build on the success of 4us2, a Council-led project that was held during the Council�s successful �Summer off the Streets� project, and will be hosted by the school and run by coaches specially trained in inclusion work.

They are being organised by Cotswold District Council, in partnership with Active Gloucestershire and the Cotswold School, and there will be seven sessions held at the Bourton-on-the-Water school until the end of March.

Claire Dowan, Cotswold District Council�s Youth Participation Officer, said:

�This is an exciting new project that will provide local children and young people with the opportunity to play sport in a non-competitive and fun way.

�Working in partnership with Active Gloucestershire, we hope to sport and physical activity opportunities for disabled children in the Cotswold area.

�Many schools are looking at how they can offer activities after hours and we are delighted that the Cotswold School has agreed to be the venue for such a positive project.�

Funding for the project comes from Extended Services and Sports Unlimited funding.
