Armed robbery in Chipping Norton

The BBC have reported that four men, one with a sawn-off shotgun, raided the Co-op supermarket in Chipping Norton and held 13 members of staff hostage.

The balaclava-clad men were waiting at the Co-op store in Chipping Norton and took their first victim hostage at about 5am on Monday 23rd January.

The robbers hid as nine female and five male staff members arrived and tied them up and held them at gunpoint.

The reports says that the thieves cash from a safe after forcing a female member of staff to unlock it.

The robbers fled on motorbikes before 0700 GMT.

Police wish to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious before raid, or anyone who saw the bikes been driven away at speed towards Banbury.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said, "They were tied up so they were only able to contact police when one of them managed to get free"

We believe that one of the staff, a man in his 40s, suffered a minor head injury and was taken to the Horton General Hospital in Banbury for treatment.
