Irish clean sweep in Cheltenham Gold Cup

Many Irish horseracing fans will be waking up with sore heads this morning after celebrating an Irish 1-2-3 in the Cheltenham Gold Cup on St. Patrick's Day yesterday.

War of Attrition (15/2), owned by the Ryanair boss and ridden by Conor O'Dwyer, beat the 2005 Grand National winner Hedgehunter (16-1). Irish-trained Forget the Past (9/1) was third.

For many people, the four day meeting at Prestbury Park will be overshadowed by the death of six horses on Thursday and nine in total. Over 500 horses took part in total.
