Boost for Chipping Norton

Chipping Norton Town Partnership has received a major boost with a grant from the District Council towards employing a Project Manager. The Project Manager will be employed to help implement projects arising from the Chipping Norton Town Appraisal and subsequent work in the town.

A full appraisal of Chipping Norton in 2003 showed that the overwhelming desire in the town was for it to remain a working Cotswold town. The Town Partnership was established to take forward the issues raised in the Appraisal and it is made up of a range of organisations with a shared commitment to
supporting Chipping Norton. These include the Town, District and County councils, Chipping Norton School, the Guild of Commerce, The Theatre, the Ace Centre and the Rotary Club.

The Partnership has made a start addressing some of the important issues in Chipping Norton, including the provision of longer term jobs in the town and the coordination of activities for young people, said William Barton, Business Development Officer. However, there is still much to do and a dedicated Project Manager will help the whole programme to gather momentum. Our support of a similar initiative in Carterton has proved extremely successful and we are keen to replicate that success in Chipping
Norton

The District Council's Cabinet has resolved to support the Partnership with a grant of up to 7,000 per annum for the next two years. The remaining money is being raised locally including contributions from the Town Council and the Guild of Commerce.
