South Cerney Chemical Spill - UPDATE

Work to clear up a chemical spill that affected the Broadway Lane area of South Cerney earlier today is well under way.

Road closures put in place on Broadway Lane while emergency services were at the scene have now been removed.

The spillage, of a quantity of hydrochloric acid, relates to a break in at a local roofing company over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Unknown offenders broke into the premises, in Broadway Lane, between 6pm on Friday April 28 and 5.45am on Tuesday May 2.

Once inside they took a forklift truck and drove it around the site, causing damage to pallets, tile moulds and fences. Damage was also caused to conveyor belts and an acid tank.

Three people, a 46 year-old woman, a 53 year-old man and a 17 year-old boy, all from South Cerney, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary in relation to this incident.

All three remain in police custody at this time.
