Stow Gypsy Hore Fair - Date Confirmed

The next Gypsy Horse Fair in Stow-on-the-Wold is due to take place on October 26th, Cotswold District Council has confirmed.

Confusion arose over the proposed date for this year's October fair, which traditionally takes place on the nearest Thursday to the 24th of the month.

The October 2005 Fair was brought forward to avoid the fair taking place during half term. Consequently, discussions with the owners of the field earlier this year led to an agreement that the Fair would take place on the 19th October, the week before half term.

However, this led to concerns within the gypsy community and requests were made for the fair to take place on the traditional date, which falls on October 26th.

Following discussions between the owners of the field, the Police and Cotswold District Council, it has been agreed that the fair should take place on the 26th.

The Council has been advised by the owners that the field will not be opened before the Monday, October 23rd.

Steps will be taken to advertise the date within the gypsy community.
