New Board member sought for Conservation Board

New Board member sought for the Cotswolds Conservation Board

The organisation that exists to conserve and enhance the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the Cotswolds Conservation Board, is looking for a new Board member.

Founded in 2004 the Board works to conserve and enhance the natural beauty of the AONB and to increase public understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the area. In fulfilling these roles the Board must foster the social and economic well-being of local communities.

Board members are responsible for making decisions which directly affect the Cotswolds. Of the 40 members, 15 are appointed by the Environment Secretary and David Miliband has encouraged people to apply for the new position.

Chairman of the Cotswolds Conservation Board Niel Curwen said: "This is a fascinating opportunity for someone who is interested in helping to make key decisions about the Cotswolds. Board members have the opportunity to help shape perceptions about the importance of conservation issues in the area and can use their influence and abilities to help ensure that the AONB is conserved in a sustainable way".

Candidates will understand the concept and practice of sustainable development and will be drawn from a broad range of backgrounds. Applications are particularly encouraged from members of ethnic minorities, young people and disabled people.

The appointment will start in the Spring of 2007.
