Man charged after Fairford Police appeal
A man has been charged with theft following a successful appeal by Fairford police for the owners of suspected stolen bikes seized by officers to come forward.
A 44 year-old man was arrested when officers recovered several bikes, believed to have been stolen from locations in the Cotswolds and Wiltshire, from an address in Marston Meysey during August 2006.
After releasing the man on bail pending further enquiries, officers appealed for victims of bike theft in the local area to get in touch in a bid to identify the items seized.
Five members of the public were subsequently reunited with their bikes and the 44 year-old, who comes from Marston Meysey, was charged with theft on September 25.
He is now on bail to appear before magistrates in Cheltenham on Monday October 16.
PC Sarah Crawford, who led the investigation into the thefts, said: "I'd like to thank everyone who got in touch as a result of our appeal.
"Their input into the investigation was invaluable, and it was extremely gratifying to be able to reunite people with their missing property."
