Robbery at Co-op Store in Bourton

Police are investigating a robbery at the Co-op Store, in Station Road, Bourton-on-the-Water.

At between 5.30 and 5.50am this morning, Monday December 4, three men wearing balaclavas forced their way in through the rear doors of the shop where they demanded the four staff inside give them access to the safe.

The staff members explained they could not access the safe and one of the offenders, who was armed with an iron bar, struck one of the male staff members on the top of his leg.

The man, who is 62 years of age, was taken to Moreton Hospital for treatment to bruising and swelling above his knee.

The offenders then demanded that the staff hand over their car keys and they left the scene in a silver Audi A6 belonging to one of the staff members.

The car, which has the registration number XIW 9322, has not been found.

It is not known whether or not the offenders were accompanied by anyone else or how they arrived at the premises.

No one else, other than the man given hospital treatment, was injured in the incident, although obviously the other members of staff present were shaken by what had happened.

Police are keen that anyone with information on this incident should ring them on 0845 090 1234 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting incident number 42 of December 4.
