Benefit cheat sentenced - Witney
West Oxfordshire District Council has successfully prosecuted a Witney man for failing to notify a relevant change in his circumstances in order to obtain benefits.
Mr Ian Clegg, aged 30, formerly of Moor Avenues, Witney, pleaded guilty at Oxford Magistrates Court on 19th February 2007 for fraudulently obtaining Housing Benefit totalling £874.34. He was given a twelve month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £75.00 costs. The Council will seek to recover the full amount of Housing benefit which had been fraudulently obtained.
Cllr Mary Neale, Cabinet Member for Finance at West Oxfordshire District Council said, "Benefit Fraud is a crime against every resident of West Oxfordshire.
