Cogges Manor Farm opens with a flurry of events

One of West Oxfordshire's biggest tourist attractions, Cogges Manor Farm, Witney, kicks off its 2007 season on 3 April with a flurry of events.

And this year Oxfordshire County Council's living history museum is making a special effort to appeal to local people, with events every weekend and activities every day of the school holidays.

The museum, which features a Manor House, traditional farm and walled kitchen garden, is also offering a range of season tickets starting from just 15, enabling mum or dad to go shopping while the rest of the family pop in and relax.

Families can also use their season tickets to drop in after school and enjoy a picnic in the orchard or tea in the Old Parlour caf.

Special eventsThe year ahead promises a packed programme including such highlights as dancing and Victorian family portraits in May, a major rural traditions weekend in August, threshing in September and Apple Day in October.

The Easter Eggstravaganza, with activities such as an Easter egg trail and egg-decorating, runs from 7-9 April.

The following weekend,14-15 April, is New Arrivals Weekend when children can marvel over the new baby animals and perhaps bottle-feed the lambs.

What else is there?
In addition to the special events, there are daily attractions including butter-making, hand-milking and Victorian cooking on the range.

Oxfordshire county councillor Don Seale, Cabinet Member for Cultural Services, said: "Cogges is both beautiful and interesting, which is why it draws so many people from far and wide.

"But it's also a fantastic local resource. It's a truism that people who've lived all their lives in an area never get around to visiting the major attractions on their doorstep. We want to encourage more local people to see Cogges as a place to drop in on, not just a special day out."
