Man Poses As Water Board Official To Steal Money

Police are appealing to the public for help after a male posed as a water board worker to trick his way inside the home of an elderly woman in Cirencester on Friday April 13th.

The offender went to the address of the 89 year-old woman in London Road, Cirencester, at around 11.30am on Friday.

Once he was inside the property the man was asked by the victim to produce some identification, which he refused to do.

He then grabbed the woman's handbag from her and stole a purse containing between 30 and 40 cash and a door key before leaving the premises.

The victim suffered bruising to her hand as a result of the offender's actions.

He is described as a white male, between 20 and 30 years old, with short, straight, dark brown hair.

He was wearing a yellow or orange fluorescent tabard and gloves.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to contact Cirencester police on 0845 090 1234, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 210 of April 13.

Homeowners are advised to turn away ALL cold callers to their property.

Callers who claim to represent utility companies or official organisations, such as the police or the council, should be made to wait outside while homeowners carry out thorough identification checks.
