A40 To Be Closed For Fatal Crash Investigation

The A40 near Northleach is to be closed for a brief period during the morning of Friday June 1st to allow police time to gather further evidence in relation to a fatal road traffic collision that occurred during May.

Officers are planning to close the road from the Northleach roundabout east towards Burford for approximately one hour between 10am to 11am.

Gloucestershire Highways will have local diversions in place for the closure, but motorists who use the A40 should avoid the area if possible.

Motorists are warned that the drag tests police will be doing require dry weather, so in the event of wet conditions the closure period will be rescheduled to take place over the weekend.

Any rescheduling details will be relayed to local and national radio stations.

The evidence gathering relates to the death of a 40 year-old motorcyclist on the A40 at Northleach on Wednesday May 23rd.

The deceased, who came from Hucclecote, Gloucester, was riding a blue Suzuki when he was in collision with a silver Ford Focus, driven by a 50 year-old man from Witney, Oxfordshire.

Following the crash the driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was released on police bail pending further enquiries until July 22nd.

Anyone who witnessed the crash who hasn't already spoken to police is asked to call officers on 0845 090 1234, quoting incident number 410 of May 23rd.
