Verdict due in Japan drugs appeal

The mother of Gloucestershire man Nick Baker is to fly to Japan to hear the result of his appeal.
Mr Baker, from Stroud, is serving a 14 year prison sentence in Japan for drug smuggling.
Baker says he was tricked into carrying ecstasy tablets and cocaine which were found in his suitcase at Narita Airport, Tokyo and he has always claimed the suitcase containing the drugs belonged to his travelling companion, James Prunier. Mr Prunier was later detained and was awaiting trial in Belgium for similar offences when his body was found on a railway line in Gloucester in August 2004. A jury recorded a suicide verdict.

Baker, who ran a sandwich shop in Cirencester, is due to find out on Tuesday if his appeal has been successful
