Recycling is in the bag for shop visitors

Hundreds of free reusable jute shopping bags were handed out to visitors at the Moreton Fire Service College Open Day.

Recycling advice and information was given out by Cotswold District Council officers and more than 300 show-goers filled out questionnaires in exchange for Recycle for Gloucestershire shopping bags.

Kate Newman, Compost Officer for Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, was also kept busy with a string of inquiries about how to make great home compost.

"It was a very successful day," said Waste Communications Officer Mike Harris.

"We spoke to hundreds of Cotswold residents and were able to respond to their questions and comments.

"The message that really came across was that the overwhelming majority of people want to recycle as much of their waste as possible."

Council officers will again be handing out free reusable shopping bags during the Check It Out open weekend at Cotswold Leisure, Tetbury, on Saturday, 22nd September, from 10am to 2pm.

Officers will also be conducting a Swap Shop, where people will be able to give away unwanted items and pick up other stuff for free, and a junk-modelling activity for children.
