Police Appeal After Distraction Burglary

Police in the Cotswolds are appealing for the public's help in tracing a man who posed as a utility worker to trick his way into the home of a 94-year-old bedridden woman.

The man gained entry into the house in Ampney Knowle at around 11.30am yesterday, Monday September 24, purporting to be from the water board.

He was let in by the victim's daughter who was told to empty the contents from a cupboard under the kitchen sink.

Unbeknownst to the victim's daughter a second offender then gained entry to the house and searched the victim's bedroom who was in the bed at the time.

She was uninjured during the incident but left shaken and upset.

After both men left it was discovered that 20 had been taken from the victim's purse which had been in a room upstairs.

The man who initially entered the house is described as white, around 6-foot-10-inches tall with dark hair and an Irish accent.

He was wearing a dark blue zip up jacket, dark blue trousers a peaked golf cap and black leather gloves.
