The Theatre Chipping Norton
The Theatre Chipping Norton withdrawal of Arts Council funding West Oxfordshire District Council Leader, Cllr Barry Norton said It is clear that the Arts Council have taken absolutely no notice of the very strong case we put up for them to continue funding The Theatre Chipping Norton and I am deeply disappointed. It is ludicrous for the Arts Council to say, as they do, that the theatre 'does not generate a regional or national impact' as this statement completely contradicts the stated view of their own Performing Arts Officer. We have unquestionable proof not only that the theatre has an impact across a large region of central England but also that it serves an area which is among the worst 10 per cent in England for access to local services. The Arts Council's decision is yet another kick in the teeth for rural communities already facing the prospect of more Post Office and Health Service cuts this year. The Theatre Chipping Norton is a thriving organisation and we will do all we can to help them find alternative forms of funding so they can continue the excellent work they do in the community.
