Don't Use Your New Bin Just Yet!Cotswold residents who have recently received new grey wheeled bins have been reminded not to use them just yet.The new bins are to be used for the fortnightly collection of non-recyclable landfill waste under Cotswold District Council's redesigned waste and recycling collection service. The first collections under that new service are due to be made across the vast majority of the District during the week beginning Monday, 21st April. Until then, residents are being urged to continue with the current arrangements � putting non-recyclable landfill waste out for collection at kerbside in black bin bags. Cllr Mark Tufnell, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: �The Council is delivering new containers and information packs to more than 38,000 households across an area of 450 square miles. �This delivery is a major operation which will take several weeks. That is why some households have already had their new containers delivered. �For most residents, the first collections under our redesigned service are not due to be made until the week beginning Monday, 21 April. Unfortunately, our contractor, SITA, will not be able to collect materials in the new containers until then, so we are asking residents not to use them just yet.� In addition to the grey wheeled bins, every household in the District is receiving a 10-litre food waste container for the weekly collection of food waste for composting and a reusable blue sack for the fortnightly collection of cardboard for recycling. The new service consists of: * The weekly collection of food waste for composting * An optional charged-for weekly collection of garden waste for composting * The fortnightly collection of card and cardboard for recycling * The continuation of the current fortnightly collection of paper, glass, cans/tins and aerosols for recycling * The collection of non-recyclable waste fortnightly in grey wheeled bins or in Council-supplied beige bin bags More than 300 households in and around the villages of Birdlip, Cowley and Coberley have already been receiving the new service for three weeks and the Council has been encouraged by initial figures from that area. �The amount of landfill waste collected from Birdlip, Cowley and Coberley has already been significantly less than usual, which is the overriding aim of the new service,� added Cllr Tufnell. �We have also collected much more recyclable material from there than we usually do and we hope this pattern will be repeated across the rest of the District.� For more information on the new waste service, visit www.cotswold.gov.uk or contact the Waste Hotline on 01285 623123.
