Sixteen Gallery (Montpellier Street, Cheltenham, GL50 1SW) hosts Cotswold artist Emma Howell and her solo exhibition 'New Terrain', an art show for your mind, body and soul. Join her at the launch party from 7:00pm on Friday 16th September. The exhibition will continue until 29th September, open daily from 10:00am - 6:00pm.
New Terrain is here to take you through four years of Emma's ever-evolving art practice, and to offer you an escape from the daily noise that often smothers us. From 2018 studio studies and small abstract expressions, to brand new still life works and spontaneous intuition pieces, New Terrain exposes the chaotic and versatile nature of the way Emma's hands and mind work together to create artwork.
Working predominantly on paper, with a range of media including paint, pencil, and pastels, the artist describes her work as the instinctive way she navigates life; a way to nurture her own sense of self. As time passes, the physical terrain she walks upon and the biological terrain she nourishes continuously evolves, and thus, her work evolves in response. The original artworks presented in New Terrain are offered as a way to invite viewers to feel grounded, to stimulate positive thought patterns and to unplug from the uneasiness of current times. Viewing the work is intended as a comforting and nostalgic experience; a calm moment to focus on each raw brush or pencil mark and to respect what makes us all remarkably individual. |
