Kickboxing Courses Hit Home With 90% Pass RateA six-week sports course run by Cotswold District Council alongside Gloucestershire Police and Sir William Romney�s school in Tetbury has proved a huge hit with a 90% pupil pass rate.The Respect Kickboxing Academy was launched by CDC on Monday February 23rd and has held six martial art classes for local young people at Cotswold Leisure Cirencester. The course finished on Monday March 30th with a final session and a �graduation� ceremony, where the students received a certificate, kickboxing licence and a red sash. The aim of the six Academy sessions � which lasted from 4pm-5pm every Monday afternoon � was to teach a small group of teenagers the skills, technique and discipline needed for a preliminary certificate in kickboxing. Every week, the group, all from Sir William Romney�s School in Tetbury, learnt blocks, punches, kicks and combinations, alongside defensive work and fitness exercises. They were also taught the need for respect and discipline alongside a martial art, with ten rules laid down at the start of each session. The project was a partnership between the Council, Gloucestershire Police and Sir William Romney�s School, and aimed to address issues of low self esteem, health and fitness and healthy eating among teenagers. Cotswold District Council�s Group Manager for Leisure Services Alan Reid, who hosted all the classes, said: �Over the past six weeks, I have thoroughly enjoyed being involved with these students.
