Three Leisure Centres To Get Makeover This Summer

Three of Cotswold District Councils leisure centres will benefit from new or updated gym equipment as well as internal makeovers this summer.

The Council owned leisure centres at Tetbury and Chipping Campden will both undergo refurbishment work and will receive updated gym equipment this summer, while Cotswold Leisure Bourton-on-the-Water will be kitted out with brand new, top-of-the-range exercise machines.

Cotswold Leisure Bourton-on-the-Water will be supplied with new cardiovascular, resistance and free-weights equipment from leading gym supplier Technogym, while the 38 pieces of gym equipment currently housed at Bourton will be distributed to the leisure centres at Tetbury and Chipping Campden.

This will upgrade the gym equipment currently being used at these two centres.

As well as the new equipment, the three leisure centres will undergo a refurbishment programme that consists of replacing carpets, the installation of flat screen televisions with free view and the redecoration of the gym areas.

Also, the air conditioning and ventilation system will be upgraded at Bourton-on-the-Water, while Cotswold Leisure Tetbury will have an air-conditioning system installed for the very first time.

Cllr David Fowles, Cotswold District Councils portfolio holder for Customer Services, said: Im delighted that the Cabinet has approved the purchase of new gym equipment. This decision has enabled us to improve the facilities at three of our leisure centres.

Combined with the necessary makeovers, this is a tangible demonstration of our continuing commitment towards enabling members of the public to continue to enjoy and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The new gym equipment and refurbishment work comes courtesy of Cotswold District Councils Cabinet, who approved a capital sum of 100,000 for work to be carried out at the three centres on May 21st.

From this total, 80,000 will be put towards the new equipment, while 20,000 will be used for the refurbishment works.

The schedule of work gets underway at the end of June with Cotswold Leisure Chipping Campden and Tetbury reopening to the public from Monday July 6th, and Cotswold Leisure Bourton-on-the-Water reopening on Saturday July 11th 2009.
