Rollright Stones

The Rollright Stones can be found about 5 miles northwest of Chipping Norton high up on the wolds.

The 3500 year old Rollright Stones consist of around 70 stones set out in a circle are the third most important stone circle in Britain after Stonehenge and Avebury, both of which can be found in Wiltshire.

Legend says the the Rollright Stones are the petrified remains of a king and his army who got on the wrong side of a white witch who was on a campaign to conquer England. Indeed, the stones are also know as "The King's Men".

Another five stones across a field are known as the Whispering Knights and on the other side of the road is the King Stone.

A small entrance fee is charged.
